The main university, The University of Wyoming, offers a variety of nursing degrees, including a basic 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, an accelerated Bachelor degree, online RN/BSN completion, Master of Science program as a Nurse Educator or Nursing Leadership (coming in 2017). The University of Wyoming also offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with the following options: Family Nurse Practitioner clinical option, Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner clinical option, and a second certification option for nationally certified family nurse practitioners among the nursing programs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for Registered Nurses is $29.23 per hour with the mean annual wage of about $61,000. Licensed practical nurses in Wyoming make about $43,000 and nurse practitioners make about $90,000. Wyoming employs approximately 4,800 Registered Nurses. Wyoming’s overall unemployment rate has been steadily rising to 4.1%, as of March 2015, which is slightly lower than the year prior. The rising unemployment has been due primarily to job losses related to the oil and gas industry. Despite the increase in unemployment, the median incomes for households in Wyoming have been historically higher than the average income of the rest of the nation.
