School Overview
Viterbo University (commonly referred as “Viterbo”) is a private four-year liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. It is located in Diocese of La Crosse in the city of La Crosse, Wisconsin. It was founded as the St. Rose Normal School in 1890 by the Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, a Catholic congregation for women. In 1923, the school began offering four-year colllege degree programs at which time it changed its name to St. Rose Junior College. In 1937, the college changed its name once more; this time to Viterbo College. In the fall of 2000, the institution’s name one changed to Viterbo University to reflect its status as a state university.
Viterbo offers a large selection bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in a variety of disciplines. Some of the more popular programs at Viterbo include its bachelor’s degree in nursing and bachelor’s degree in theater. At the graduate level, several programs, including the Masters of Servant Leadership, are quite popular among students. In all, Viterbo offers over 77 undergraduate majors and minors, and 4 graduate degree programs.
Currently, Viterbo has a total annual enrollment of roughly 3,100 students (2,200 undergraduate and 900 graduate). Even though the university offers a decent select of graduate programs, it is still considered an undergraduate institution.
