Vanguard University is a liberal arts university located in Southern California in the city of Costa, Mesa. The University was first established by W. C. Pierce and Harold K. Needham, D. W. Kerr in 1920 as a Christian ministries school designed to prepare students to serve in various Christian ministries throughout the church. In 1927 the school was renamed the “Southern California Bible School” and it was relocated to Pasadena, California. In 1939, that the school started offering state charted degree programs and it changed its name once more to “Southern California Bible College-the first four-year institution of the Assemblies of God”. In 1950 the institution was relocated yet again and its name was changed to Southern California College and then later to Vanguard University of Southern California.
