School Overview
Founded in 1956, the University of South Florida (USF) is a coeducation public four-year research university located in Tampa, Florida. With a total annual enrollment of nearly 50,000 students, USF is the 3rd largest university in Florida and among the top 10 largest universities in the United States. In addition to its main campus in Tampa, USF has branch campuses in Sarasota and St. Petersburg.
USF is among the top universities in the nation when it comes to research and is classified as a “very high research” institution. In fact, USF is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world based on annual research expenditures and among the top 10 for the number of patents it has been awarded. In the state of Florida, the University of Florida is the only university that spends more on research than the University of South Florida.
USF is well known for being one of the leaders in Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease research and treatment development. Of the top 100 ranked graduate programs in the nation, 20 are at USF.
