General Information

For a quality education at a reasonable cost, try the University of
Maine at Presque Isle.  For those who want to get away from the
crowds and have a more personal learning experience, this small
university serves 1,400 students with a smaller student to teacher
ratio. Situated on 150 acres in the picturesque countryside of northern
Maine, the small town environment doesn’t leave you stranded as there
are many amenities to choose from, and in the neighboring towns as
well, plus easy access to weekend trips to visit our northern neighbor,
Canada. Enjoy the crisp, clean air in the winter while skiing,
snowmobiling, or hiking the snowy trails.

Admissions Information

The school’s online application system is easy to use. The
non-refundable application fee is $40, which can be paid by credit card
or check. With your online application, an essay and letter of
reference need to be attached and as soon as your high school
transcripts are received, staff members will review your application.
Whether you are in your 20s or entering retirement, it’s never too late
to pursue your dream of a higher education. UMPI welcomes international
students, including many from across the border in Canada.

quality education with the ease of accessibility and can fit into most
anyone’s schedule, if you are a determined student. Online courses are
fully accredited and all online staff have graduate degrees – most with

university. Accreditation has been awarded to UMPI by the New England

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Financial aid is available for all qualifying students. There are a
number of ways a student can receive aid with their tuition, through
Title IV Funds, Awards and Scholarships, Loans and Grants. Some of the
awards and scholarships include: The Merit Awards (Presidential
Scholarships and Ambassador Scholarships), 15 Freshman Foundation
Scholarships, plus a host of other programs and scholarships too
numerous to include here.

Library System

UMPI’s library houses more than 400,000 items for loan and use to
students and faculty. The library is fully equipped with a separate
computer lab in the basement plus additional computers scattered
throughout the building. Video and audio equipment are also accessible
as well as equipment to aid visually impaired students with their
research or projects. Handicapped accessible, it seats 100 persons. All
seven campus libraries are accessible via the Internet as well as the
libraries in the surrounding communities.


Men’s athletics include the Owls – Cross Country programs that compete
in New England and Atlantic Canada in the Canadian Conferences, the
NAIA and the NCAA Division III. Other sports include baseball,
basketball, golf, skiing, and soccer. The women’s athletics include the
Owl Harriers in the same cross country programs as the men, as well as
the Ladies’ Owls in basketball, skiing, soccer, softball, and

Student Housing

Emerson Hall, Merriman House, and Park Hall house a total of 320 co-ed
students on different floors. All residences provide study and social
lounges, coin-operated laundry rooms, and vending machines that are all
under the watchful eyes of trained Resident Assistants.

For families seeking higher education, the Northern Road four-family
unit house is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Located
2.5 miles away, the units come unfurnished but have kitchens, two
bedrooms, a garage, basement, and hookups for a washer and dryer.

For students over the age of 21, the Skyway is a suite-style residence
with double occupancy bedrooms connected with a shared kitchen and
bath. Laundry facilities and social lounge are located in the Skyway
and a trained staff of one Skyway Manager is there to oversee the
