The location of the University Of Maine Machias gives the opportunity

Rankings
The Washington Monthly recently stated that the University of Maine
Machias made it into a group of 100 of the top liberal arts colleges in
the United States. The magazine has an annual college guide and
rankings, and this ranking showed UMM as 99th out of 255.
Accreditation
The accreditation at UMM is provided by the New England Association of
Schools and Colleges, Inc. Although this organization is recognized for
helping institutions from elementary schools through colleges that
offer a postgraduate education, it is not a government organization.
Accreditation is an important aspect of a University. It helps you if
you are unable to afford to pay for your college, because an accredited
college can accept financial aid from the government. It also
encourages colleges to maintain a certain standard for the education
that you as a student will receive.
Financial Aid
There are a few different ways to get financial aid when you go to
college. Filling out the necessary applications for government
financial aid is an important first step. Not everyone will get money,
but it is definitely something to try. As you look at entering an
institution such as UMM, you should look at the scholarships that they
have to offer. The University of Maine Machias offers four main
scholarships:
The Acadia Scholarship – This is specifically for those in their first
year and from out of state; student must have a GPA of 3.60 and ACT
score of 23 or SAT of 1100. It provides $7,500 per year.
The Sunrise Scholarship – This is for those from out of state in their
first year; GPA must be 3.0; ACT must be at least 20 and SAT must be at
least 950. It provides $6,500 per year.
The Bold Coast Award – This is an award for first year students with a
GPA of at least 2.4 (high school); the ACT score of 18 or SAT of 880;
for in-state students $1,000 is given per year; for out-of-state
students $2,500 is given per year.
The Presidential Scholarship – This scholarship is for first year and
transfer students; first year in-state students that have 3.0 GPA and
22 ACT score or 1000 SAT score; transfer students must have a 2.75 GPA.
In-state transfer students receive $2,000 per year; out-of-state
transfer students receive $5,500 per year,
Library System
The library that serves UMM students is called the Merrill Library. The
Merrill Library offers a collection that is considered the largest in
the eastern part of Maine. As a student at the University of Maine
Machias, you will have the necessary tools that will help you as you
research or study for projects. A variety of databases as well as the
ability to get books from a variety of other libraries are great assets.
Athletics
UMM offers a variety of sports for men and women. Basketball, cross
country, golf, and soccer are available for men. For the women, there
is basketball, cross country, soccer, and volleyball. The UMM Clippers
are a part of the USCAA.
Student Housing
There are several options for housing at UMM. If you are a freshman,
then you will either be put in Sennett Hall with other freshmen, or
there is also an option that you could be a part of one of the themed
housing communities that encourage those with common interests to live
and learn together.
Upperclassmen have the option of living in Dorward Hall where there are
suites, single, or double rooms. Upperclassmen can also be a part of
the themed housing.
