School Overview

St. Thomas University is a private, four-year university located in Miami, Florida that is closely associated with the Roman Catholic church. The institution was founded in 1961 as the Biscayne College by American Augustinians who escaped from Cuba during Castro’s tyrannical reign. Biscayne College received regionally accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1968. With the addition of ten master’s degrees and a law school in 1984 the institution became a university and changed its name to St. Thomas University. The institution is the only university in Florida that is sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocesan.
