School Overview
Temple University is a public university
that was established in 1884 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The University
currently has more than 37,000 students
enrolled at not only their main campus,
but also campuses in Rome, Tokyo,
Singapore and London.
Programs
Temple has 17 schools and colleges and
four professional schools that offer a
total of over 300 degree programs. Some of
the most well-known and popular programs
at Temple are Art, Business, Criminal
Justice, Engineering, Law, Medicine, and
Media and Communication.
Ratings
Not surprisingly, Temple University has
been named one of the “Most Connected”
campuses by Forbes and the Princeton
Review.
Social Environment, Student Housing
and Student Body
With approximately 14,000 students living
on or around the main campus, the
University has a very active social
environment. There are over 350 clubs and
organizations for students to participate
in such as student government, which holds
weekly meetings and is open for all
students to attend. Greek life has always
been a large part of Temple’s history; the
school currently has 35 recognized
sororities and fraternities that initiate over 1,200 students. Temple has several
recently upgraded housing units on campus
for freshman and sophomore students to
take advantage of.
Athletics
Temple University athletics are all NCAA
Division I, and the University is part of
the American Athletic Conference. Starting
during the 2013-2014 school year, the
Lacrosse and Field Hockey teams will
participate as affiliate members of the
Big East Conference. The sports programs
are all well-run by established coaches
such as Matt Ruhle. Ruhle was the
offensive line coach for the New York
Giants, and is now the head football coach
at Temple. Both the men’s and women’s
basketball teams are recognized for
their accomplishments in NCAA tournaments
over the years, as well.
Financial Aid
There are numerous financial aid and
scholarship opportunities offered at
Temple University. Approximately 60% of
first year students receive need-based
financial aid totaling $15,000 on average
per student. Temple also has work-study
programs, veteran’s benefits, and employer
tuition reimbursement to help with the costs
of tuition.
Accreditation
Temple University is accredited by the
Middle States Commission of Higher
Education, and was most recently
re-affirmed in 2010.
