Strayer University’s main headquarters are located in Herndon, Virginia. Its breadth does not end in Herndon, however, as it also has 100 campus locations in 24 states as well as Strayer University online programs, which offer students the ability to earn Strayer University degrees online. In fact, while there is no shortage of Strayer campuses located in the U.S., more than half of the almost 43,000 Strayer students choose to take advantage of the Strayer University online course offerings.

Strayer University online includes three schools through which Strayer online master’s, bachelor’s, and associate online degrees are administered: Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resource Management, Information Systems & Technology, and more. The university has 9 online master’s and 6 online bachelor’s degree programs that can be completed solely online if desired. Strayer also has one online MBA program (Jack Welch Executive MBA), 6 online associate programs, and offers a number of certificate programs, as well.

Strayer University Financial Aid

At Strayer, the approach to financial aid is designed to assist prospective students in gaining as much aid as possible based on previous coursework completed. The program is called “Strayer University Graduation Fund” and aims to help pay for up to 25% of students tuition expenses. The university also readily accepts military benefits such as the Post 9/11 GI Bill, otherwise known as the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship, and partners with 9 different military programs to aid members in continuing to pursue higher education.

History of Strayer University

Strayer University was founded in 1892. It is a private school and was initially named “Strayer’s Business College”. The College was first located in Baltimore, Maryland and was founded by Dr. Irving Strayer in order to help teach various business-related skills to previous farm workers. Strayer Business College was granted the accreditation to offer undergraduate degrees in 1969 and gained “University” status in 1998 from the District of Columbia Education Licensure Commission. Strayer University still holds regional accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, most recently being re-accredited in 2012.
