Arkansas State University is a public higher education institution and has the second highest number of enrolled students in the state. The university is also referred to as ASTATE, ASU, or just “state,” and it is the principal campus for the Arkansas State University System, the second largest system of colleges in Arkansas. The university is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Crowley’s Ridge, and celebrated its one hundredth year in 2009.
The university began offering Master’s degrees in 1955 and its first doctoral degree, in educational leadership, was launched in 1992. Other doctoral programs followed, with a doctoral degree in environmental science in 1997, heritage studies in 2001, and biomedical sciences in 2006.
ASU currently has over 55,000 alumni and offers a large variety of degrees programs. Specialist degrees, as well as associate’s, bachelor’s, and masters, are available through the universities various academic colleges which include the colleges of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, Education, Communications, Agriculture, Nursing and Health, Science and Math, and Business.
