School Overview
Saint Mary’s College of Maryland is a
public liberal arts college located in
scenic Saint Mary’s, Maryland. The school
offers 22 bachelor’s degree degrees. Among
the approximate 2,000 students enrolled,
majors in psychology, biology and
economics are some of the most commonly
studied programs. The college does offer
one post-graduate degree: Master’s of Arts
in Teaching.
Study Abroad Programs
There are exciting study abroad
opportunities at Saint Mary’s, as well.
They offer a wide variety of semester
abroad locations from Dublin, Ireland to
Hong Kong, China and they provide
scholarship opportunities for students
wishing to take advantage of the program.
Athletics
Saint Mary’s College has a NCAA division
III ranking. While the school does not
have a football program, it does have a
wide range of other athletic offerings
including a top performing men’s
basketball team. What the college is most
well known is their high-ranked sailing
teams. Saint Mary’s currently holds 13
national titles for its sailing program,
and Sailing World Magazine has
ranked the co-ed team first in the nation
for the
past 2 years running.
Social Environment, Student Body
The rich campus life is fed by more than
90 student-run clubs including a cappella
groups, a literary magazine, Habitat for
Humanity, and numerous other academic
clubs. Saint Mary’s also has many
traditions that students take place in
throughout the year. Some of these
traditions include a midnight breakfast
during finals week that often ends in
karaoke and an event called “The Great
Bamboo Race”. The Race occurs during
homecoming weekend where teams make and
race their own boats made out of bamboo.
Student Housing
Approximately 1,600 students currently
live on campus in traditional dormitories,
apartments and townhome-style living
arrangements. Saint Mary’s also has 9
“SAFE housing” residences, which are
substance and alcohol free environments
for students.
