School Overview
Southwestern Adventist University (also known as SWAU) is one of thirteen colleges and universities associated with the Adventist Church. In 1892, the Seventh-Day Adventists purchased property to construct the first school building which was completed two years later. The university was established in 1893 as Keene Industrial Academy and changed its name to Southwestern Adventist University in 1996. SWAU opened its doors to the public in 1996 with a total of fifty-six students.
SWAU is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is also accredited by the Adventist Accrediting Association. SWAU’s nursing program is approved by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
