School Overview
Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), located in Marshall, Minnesota, is a four-year university that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. The university is divided into two major colleges: the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences, and the College of Business, Education, and Professional Studies. SMSU is accredited by the North Central Association of College Schools. The university also has additional accreditations through the National Association of Schools of Music, Minnesota Board of Teaching, American Chemical Society and Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to supporting a Center for Rural and Regional Studies, SMSU provides undergraduate education in the liberal arts and professional studies for multiple areas, including Accounting, Agribusiness Management, Anthropology, Art, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Culinology, Economics, Education, English, Environmental Science, Foreign Languages, Global Studies, History, Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Humanities, Indigenous Nations and Dakota Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Justice Administration, Marketing, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Rural and Regional Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Speech Communication, Theatre Arts, Wellness and Human Performance, and Women’s Studies with masters degrees in Business Management, Education, and Special Education; the most popular majors being Business Administration and Education.
Southwest Minnesota State University also offers a reputable MBA program that offers concentrations in marketing, leadership, and the general business administration studies. Onsite or online classes are available to students. Though the graduate school does not currently have a student senate, there is an MBA student organization that students can participate in. The undergraduate and graduate business programs give full access to The Southwest Marketing Advisory Center where actual business research is conducted.
