As its name denotes, the University of Southern California (USC) is located in Southern California in the city of Los Angeles. It is a non-profit, private, research university that was established in 1880, making it the oldest private, research university in California. Over the last century, USC has grown at about the same pace as the city of Los Angeles. Historically, the University was responsible for educating professionals and business leaders in the LA community, but today it educates adult students of all ages and backgrounds from across the world. In fact, USC has the largest number of international students of any U.S. university. USC has strong relationships and partnerships with several other research universities and institutions located throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim.
