Previously known as Southern State College, Southern Arkansas University (SAU), located in Magnolia, Arkansas, is a four-year public coeducational university. The university resides in Columbia County, Arkansas close to Louisiana state border. Since its establishment in 1909 the university has changed its name several times. It has been know as Third District Agricultural School, Magnolia A&M, and Southern State College.
