School Overview
Shorter University is a private, Christian higher education institution that admits both men and women students. Founded in 1873 in the Southern United States, this liberal arts school was originally affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention. Today, Shorter University is located in Rome, Georgia.
With individual academic schools dedicated to seven different academic and career-oriented disciplines, Shorter University awards degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Shorter has total enrollment of about 3,500 traditional and non-traditional students each year. Well-equipped with academic buildings and residence halls, the campus is located on an 155 acres about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. Shorter University offers graduate programs and adult education courses at its satellite campuses in North Atlanta, Riverdale, and Duluth. The university also operates the Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business and the School of Nursing.
In addition to a comprehensive academic offering, Shorter University offers many extracurricular activities for students. Wearing the school colors, blue and white, student athletes and fans enjoy a nationally-recognized athletics program. Formerly part of the NAIA, the Shorter Hawks are moving up to the NCAA II Division and the Gulf South Conference. Students at Shorter also have the opportunity to join fraternities and sororities, take part in clubs and honor societies, and work in school organizations. The student population at Shorter University is 91% Georgian, 6% out-of-state, and 3% international.
