Harding University is named after James A. Harding and located just 50 miles from the state capital of Little Rock in the town of Searcy, Arkansas. Harding is a private, Christian university that offers a liberal arts education and its affiliated with the Churches of Christ.
Originally the school was founded in Morrilton, Arkansas, in 1924. It started as Harding College, and moved to Searcy after ten years to fill the campus of Galloway Female College, which was no longer operational. The school now has 48 buildings, as well as a school of Theology in Memphis, Tennessee, and satellite campuses in Bentonville, Paragould, and North Little Rock. Harding also has campuses outside the United States, including in Vina del Mar, Chile; Brisbane, Australia; London, England; Florence, Italy; Porto Rafti, Greece; and in Nawianga Mission, Zambia. The university also runs the nearby Harding University and Camp Tahkodah in the town of Floral, Arkansas.
As of fall 2012 there are 6,815 students enrolled in Harding University. There are 2,425 graduates and 4,390 undergraduates, hailing from every state in the nation as well as over fifty different countries. Fall 2012 marks the 26th year running that Harding has had record fall enrollment, including 53 students who were chosen as National Merit Finalists.
