Millennial students who value passion over pay

People choose their careers for a variety of reasons. Some for how much money they will be able to make, some because they have a skill set that makes them qualified, and some because they have a passion and they have a strong desire to use that passion to benefit others. The latter are the people that this list focuses on. This group of people choose passion over pay in their career and they appear to be a growing percentage of the population.

According to a recent study done by McGraw-Hill, the upcoming millennial generation appears to be more altruistic as a whole than previous generations.

  • 73% of students in this study say it is more important for them to find a job that allows them to do what they love while 20% say it is important to find a job that pays well.
  • 45% of the students report that they would prefer a job that is beneficial to society over the 27% that say they would prefer a job that simply pays well.

The President of McGraw-Hill, Brian Kibby, said, “Today’s college students have career aspirations that are markedly different, perhaps nobler, than those of previous generations, and I for one find that exciting.” We do too.
