This program is designed to prepare students to assist patients in selecting appropriate frames; adapt and fit corrective eyewear, including eyeglasses and contact lenses, as prescribed by ophthalmologists or optometrists; and to prepare work orders for ophthalmic laboratory technicians. This program frequently includes in depth instruction in geometrical optics, anatomy of the eye, ophthalmic optics, optical instrumentation, prescription interpretation, use and maintenance of adjustment and cleaning tools, contact lens adaptation and fitting, facial and eye measuring, prosthesis fitting, record-keeping, pathology identification, and patient and business administrative tasks.
