Northwest Vista College is a two-year, associate degree granting community college located San Antonio, Texas. It belongs to the Alamo Community College District and is considered by many inside academia to be one of the most prestigious community colleges in the country. Northwest has an open admissions policy.

As of 2013, Northwest Vista has a total annual enrollment just over 14,500 students. The college was founded in 1995 and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.) and Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees, as well as Certificates. It is also accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

The Norwest Vista campus is made up of several buildings and student service centers. Buildings include Mountain Laurel Hall, Manzanillo Hall, Huisache Hall, Pecan Hall, Texas Persimmon Physical Plant, Boardwalk, Juniper Hall, Redbud Learning Center, Live Oak Hall, Cypress Campus Center, and Palmetto Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Academics

Northwest Vista offers two-year associate degrees and certificates of completion in various academic fields and career-oriented disciplines. For students set on pursuing career opportunities following graduation, Northwest Vista also offers the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Many students who complete associate degrees at Northwest Vista end up transfering to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. In fact, the college has articulation agreements with several universities in the region, including Texas State University´┐ŻSan Marcos, University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of the Incarnate Word. Student who graduate from Northwest Vista in good standing with an acceptable GPA are guaranteed admission to these and a few other 4-year higher education institutions in Texas. These agreements also ensure the students’ credits transfer as well, and are applied towards their bachelor’s degree.
