Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC), is one of fifteen community, junior and technical colleges in Mississippi. NEMCC is a two-year public institution located in the city of Booneville, Mississippi. It was first established as an agricultural school in 1948 at which time it was called Northeast Mississippi Junior College. In 1987, its name was changed to Northeast Mississippi Community College to reflect its status as a two-year public community college that was accredited to award associate degrees. In addition to is main campus in Booneville, NEMCC has satellite education centers in the cities of Corinth and New Albany. The college serves the counties of Tippah, Alcorn, Union, Toshomingo, and Prentiss.

Academics

Northeast Mississippi Community College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges to award degrees and certificates. Currently, the college offers Associate of Art (A.A.) and Associate of Applied Science degrees. A few of the Associate of Art degrees at NEMCC are academic in nature (designed to help students prepare to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degrees) but most are career-oriented. The Associate of Applied Science programs are designed to help students acquire the technical skills and knowledge needed to find a job and launch a successful career. Programs are offered in various fields of study and technical disciplines, including construction trades, medical assisting, medical technology, nursing, pharmacy, mechanics, and automotive technology.

NEMCC offers courses during the day, in the evening and on weekends, and online. Students unable to attend the Booneville campus may also complete courses at the college’s extension centers in Albany and Corinth. Through a partnership with University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University students at Northeast Mississippi Community College campus in Booneville are also able to take several upper-level courses.

On-campus Housing

Unlike most other community colleges in Mississippi, NEMCC offers students the option of living on-campus in one of the college’s five student dormitories. These include:

  • Mississippi – this student dormitories is for girls. It was built in 1990 and houses up to 220 female students.
  • Murphy Hall – like Mississippi Hall, Murphy Hall is a girls dormitory. It was named after Nelwyn Murphy, one of the college’s former leaders and board members. It houses nearly 170 students.
  • White Hall – one of NEMCC’s larger dormitories, White Hall can house up to 204 students. This hall is an all boys dormitory. It is named after Harold White, one of the college’s former presidents.
  • Wood Hall – this dormitory offers housing for both men and women. It houses up to 116 students. It was named after Hoyt Wood, a former board member.
  • Yarber Hall – is men’s dormitory that offers housing for up to 116 students. It is a three-story building that includes 58 units.

In all, NEMCC offers on-campus housing for nearly 840 students. For students interested in living near campus there are several off-campus apartments and housing options.
