Nebraska is a Midwestern state located on the Great Plains of the United States. The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln, while the largest city in the state is Omaha. The state is characterized by treeless prairie that extends as far as the eye can see. Nebraska is almost entirely rural and one of the least-densely populated states in the nation. While nursing jobs can be found in just about every city throughout the state, the most opportunity is found in either Omaha or Lincoln.

Nebraska has as strong and thriving healthcare community. With nearly 2 million people, there is always a steady and growing demand for healthcare services and the professionals that provide them. Nurses are in particularly high demand. Hospitals, nursing care centers, assisted living facilities, medical centers and a variety of healthcare organizations are always hiring qualified nurses. While most job opportunities are going to found in major cities including Omaha and Lincoln, nurses are required in just about every city throughout the state where there is a decent population, including Bellevue, Columbus, Hastings, Kearney, Fremont, Norfolk, North Platte and Papillion.

There are two ways that you can become a nurse in Nebraska. First, you can earn a diploma in nursing from an approved institution. A nursing diploma will qualify you to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN). This is the easiest way to break into a career in nursing. The second and more popular way to become a nurse is to earn an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) or Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). Earning either of these degrees will allow you to become a registered nurse (RN). Job opportunities for registered nurses are greater than they are for LPNs. However, not all RNs are the same. We recommended becoming a registered nurse by earning your BSN. Earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing will qualify you for more job opportunities and the BSN is the degree of choice among healthcare employers.
