General Information

Founded in 1971, Metropolitan State University is an urban school in
St. Paul, Minnesota. Its main focus is on adults in the working
community. These students are diverse in their backgrounds, but they
come together at Metropolitan with the single focus of being educated.
Accreditation was achieved in 1975. This allowed for even more
opportunities for the students. The school has almost forty years of
serving as an educational institution with the goal of helping those
who would not otherwise be able to go to college.

Metropolitan State is a small to medium university with a total of
6,325 undergraduate students. The school does offer Bachelor’s,
Master’s, and Doctoral degrees.

Admissions Information

Metropolitan State University has a $20 application fee which
must accompany the completed application form along with high school transcripts and test scores.

Metropolitan State University is accredited by the
Higher Learning Commission, and the University
is also a part of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Other accreditations include the Commission on Collegiate Nursing
Education and the Council on Social Work Education. The Minnesota Board
of Teaching also approves the school’s Urban Teacher programs. This
board grants licensure and also administers the required tests to prospective teachers for the State.

Financial Aid

One of the great things about choosing an accredited institution is
that you can apply for and may receive federal aid if you qualify. It might
depend on the income of your parents if you are still a dependent. You
will need to fill out the necessary paperwork in order to be considered
for federal aid. Other aspects of financial aid include scholarships, loans, and work-study options.

Library System

The Metropolitan State Library will provide you with the resources that
you need as you approach your various classes. Whether in the form of
periodicals, books, or specific articles, the library is prepared to
help students find the information they need. The databases should
offer the information that you need, and the librarian will be able to
assist you with any questions that you might have.
