School Overview
The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science located in the Willowbrook community of Los Angeles is a private, non-profit university that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. In response to a shortage of quality medical facilities the institution was first established in 1966 as the Charles R. Drew Medical Center. It did not officially become a university until years later, at which point it changed its name to reflect its new role as an academic institution of higher learning. As the university was also associated with the former-Martin Luther King Jr. it is sometimes referred to as King-Drew University.
