Lyon College was founded in 1872 and is the oldest independent college in the state of Arkansas. It is a co-educational, undergraduate liberal arts college with a close-knit community that fosters excellent teaching and learning opportunities. Lynn College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.

Lyon has many distinctions: it is ranked number 15 on the US News and World Report’s list of “best Colleges, Best Values;” is ranked by the Princeton Review as a “Best Southeastern College;” Forbes.com lists it in the top 3% of colleges nationwide; and the US News and World Report ranks the school in the top tier for national liberal arts colleges. In addition, Lyon College is distinguished by its innovative residential housing system, the quality of its academic programs, its honor system, and by its endowment of the Nichols International Studies program.

Due to its strong liberal arts core, Lyon offers a large selection of degrees in various disciplines. A large portion of Lyon students are on the pre-physical therapy, pre-veterinary, pre-pharmacy, pre-law, pre-dental, and pre-medical tracks.

Lyon College offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Business Administration, English, Economics, History, Math, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Religion, Spanish and Theatre. It offers Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Accounting, Biology, Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and Chemistry. Lyon also allows students to customize their major.
