Lewis & Clark College, located in Portland, Oregon, is a private four-year college. The college has an undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences, a Graduate School of Education and Counseling, and a School of Law. Lewis & Clark is one of the more well known liberal arts colleges that belongs to the Annapolis Group. Its athletic teams compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III Northwest Conference.

Lewis & Clark was established in Albany in 1867, as the Albany Collegiate Institute. In 1938 it relocated to its Portland Campus, and in 1942 it adopted the name “Lewis & Clark College” in honor of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The college is situated on an expansive campus of nearly 137 acres (554,000 m�). The campus located on Palatine Hill’s M. Lloyd Frank Estate, which is found in the Collins View neighborhood of Southwest Portland.

Lewis & Clark has received several national recognitions and awards. Its undergraduate programs in Biology, Environmental Studies, Foreign Languages, International Affairs, and Psychology are nationally acclaimed. In the last five years, the college has organized two international, professional-level symphonic festivals in the Greek Islands and Dublin. In the 2009 U.S. News & World Report’s list of the “Best Liberal Arts Colleges,” Lewis & Clark was ranked as 71st.

Lewis & Clark is well known for its popular study abroad programs. Each year, it hosts around 36 different international programs and over sixty percent of all Lewis & Clark undergraduates have participated in the college’s study abroad program sinces 1960. For being such a small liberal arts college, Lewis & Clark’s study abroad programs are quite impressive; their offerings include seven unique Spanish-speaking programs, and they are one of the only colleges in the U.S. to offer a program in Cuba. The international education programs at Lewis & Clark are a fundamental element of the college’s identity and legacy.
