When most people think of Nevada, they think of Las Vegas. Even though Carson City is the capital of Nevada, Las Vegas is the powerhouse of the state. Nearly two thirds of the state’s population lives in the greater Las Vegas metro area and the city supports most of the major industries that power the state’s economy. Las Vegas is known worldwide as a major resort city for gambling, shopping and fine dining and the city markets itself as “The Entertainment Capital of the World”. Las Vegas is famous for its chain of casinos, hotels and associated entertainment. Surprisingly, Las Vegas is also a growing retirement and family city. Most of Las Vegas’s current growth is occurring outside the main city in the surrounding suburbs.

While there are many industries that support Las Vegas’s economy, the primary drivers of the Las Vegas economy are tourism, gaming and conventions. In turn these industries support hotels, restaurants and retail sales establishments located throughout the city. With well over a million people living in the greater Las Vegas metropolitan area the city also has an ongoing need for medical and health care services. As in most major cities across the nation, you can find hospitals, clinics, health care facilities, assisted living homes and nursing care centers throughout the region. Each of these organizations employs and hires nurses. While there is demand for both licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered nurses (RNs), most employers are looking to hire RNs.

If you want to become a nurse in Las vegas you’ll need to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). However, before you can sit for the NCLEX exam you’ll need a diploma or degree in nursing from an approved nursing program. Earning a diploma in nursing will allow you to become an LPN. Earning an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree (BSN) in nursing will qualify you to become a registered nurse. Today, more and more nursing students are earning their BSN as this is the degree that most employers are looking for, it provides for greater career advancement opportunities and it is required for most graduate nursing programs.

Below we’ve compiled a list of nursing schools in Las Vegas that offer diploma program, associate’s degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing that will prepare you to launch your nursing career.
