School Overview
Located in Kent, Ohio, Kent State University is a public research institution that was founded in 1910. It is one of the largest universities in the state of Ohio with the main campus located in Kent and eight satellite campuses located throughout the state.
Academic Colleges and Degree Programs
The University is divided into eleven academic colleges through which its 280 undergraduate, graduate, PhD, and continuing education programs are administered. Kent State, as it is commonly referred to, offers a wide array of programs ranging from the natural, social, and biomedical sciences, to business, finance, and economics.
Student Body and Campus Housing
Kent State's main campus boasts a large student population consisting of over 28,000 students. Of the 28,000, over 22,000 are undergraduates and over 6,000 are postgraduates. The entire campus system, which includes the aforementioned eight satellite locations, has a total student population of over 42,000.
Twenty-five residence hall options are available to students that choose to live on-campus. Each residence hall offers living environments specially catered to specific students. Like many other universities, there are residences that are dedicated to housing first-time students, international students, honors students, and student families.
Rankings, Distinctions, and Research
Kent State is the recipient of many distinctions and notable rankings. The University has been classified as one of the nation’s top 75 research institutions. Kent State is home to the Liquid Crystal Institute which itself is a world leader in conducting liquid crystal research and development.
The University’s programs and colleges have likewise highly ranked. Fashionista.com, for example, has ranked the College of Arts Fashion School as seventh in the country. U.S. News and World Report has likewise ranked the University's College of Business Administration in the top tier of “Best Undergraduate Business Programs.
Overall, the University is ranked in the top 200 worldwide by Times Higher Education.
Athletics
The athletic teams of Kent State are known as the Golden Flashes. The University’s teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. The athletic teams consist of 16 varsity teams and one club team.
