School Overview
Heartland Community College is a two-year community college that was established in 1991. It’s based in Normal, Illinois but also has branch campuses in the cities of Lincoln and Pontiac. The college is a fully accredited institution.
Heartland’s main campus in Normal consists of seven modern buildings. The Community Commons Building (CCB), an administrative and student resources building that is home to the college’s human resources and financial aid department. The Student Commons Building (SCB) is another one of the campus’s hallmark buildings. It’s connected to the Community Commons Building (CCB) and is home to the student library, bookstore, Cafe and IT department. Other buildings include the Instructional Commons Building (ICB) and Workforce Development Center (WDC). The campus is currently expanding and several new buildings and facilities are being added.
Heartland Community College is very eco-friendly and eco-conscious. Recently a wind-turbine was installed on the college’s main campus to produce renewable energy and to act as a laboratory for students pursuing an educational track in alternative and renewable energy. Many of the college’s new buildings are “green” buildings using heating and cooling systems based on geothermal and other green technology.
