Forensic Psychology Colleges and Programs

College Degree Finder

Forensic psychology combines the study of criminal justice and psychology. Forensic psychologists have a thorough understanding of the court system and how insane individuals think and behave. They frequently consult with lawyers, judges, and law enforcement officials. Forensic psychologists often interview suspected criminals and relay their assessments to juries and judges during criminal trials.

Most forensic psychologists hold graduate degrees in counseling, clinical, or behavioral psychology. No universities currently offer graduate programs in forensic psychology. Forensic psychologists typically begin their careers after obtaining a PhD in a psychological discipline and completing post-doctoral training.

Forensic psychology programs are designed to prepare students to apply clinical, school, counseling, and neuropsychology skills to the provision of psychological services within the criminal justice and civil legal systems, including assessment, consultation, and interventions. Programs typically include in depth instruction in the epidemiology of mental/behavioral disorders, profiling and patterning, risk factors for violence and criminality, psychological testing, forensic assessment, criminal and civil law and procedures, prediction and intervention measurement, forensic treatment and intervention skills, secure environments, and professional standards and ethics.

The colleges, universities and schools below offer majors and degree programs in Forensic Psychology. To learn more about a specific school click on any of the links below.
