School Overview
Florida State University (locally referred to as Florida State of just FSU) is a public four-year coeducational research university located in Tallahassee, Florida. FSU is one of the few sea-grant universities in the state and one of only 33 in the entire nation. FSU is categorized a “high research activity” university as classified by the Carnegie Foundation and performs a significant amount of research each year. Florida State is comprised of 15 academic schools and colleges that together offer over 300 educational, professional and degree programs. FSU was founded in 1851 and is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the state of Florida. In 2010 the Fiske Guide to Getting into the Right College named FSU a “Budget Ivy” as its offers a comparable academic and educational experience as an Ivy League school at a very reasonable cost.
