Finlandia University is a higher education institution located in Hancock, Michigan, U.S.A, just 2 hours west of the city of Marquette, and 4 hours north of Green Bay. It is the only privately owned and operated university in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The university was founded as The Suomi College and Theological Seminary in 1896 and is an affiliate institution of the Evangelical Luthern Church in America, a Protestant denomination headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.
Finlandia offers Associate of General Studies (A.G.S.), Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), and Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degrees that fosus on various career fields, disciplines and specialities. Specific areas of study include, but are not limited to, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Digital Art, Illustration, Business, Accounting, Management, Sports Management, Education, Economics, Religion and Philosophy, Science, Criminal Justice, International Studies and International Business.
Finlandia is one of the few schools in the area to have an international school of business. Through its International School of Business and Art & Design College, the university offers students the opportunity to participate in a unique and exciting study abroad program where they can experience life in an overseas country.
Athletics
Althetics at Finlandia University are big part of student life and an integral component of the university’s culture. Finlandia offers 12 varsity sports. Men’s and women’s sports include baseball, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, softball, volleyball, golf, and cross country running. Finlandia is a member of the NCAA Division III, the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Assocation, and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Through the men’s soccer program, Finlandia also belongs to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
