Evolutionary Psychology Programs

College Degree Finder

Evolutionary psychologists specialize in human psychological development from previous time periods to the present. Specifically, they conduct research to determine how changes in environments, beliefs, cultural practices, and other factors have affected human behavior and survival instincts.

Depending on specialty, evolutionary psychologists can have backgrounds in anthropology, genetics, biology, biochemistry, and psychology. Evolutionary psychologists do not administer clinical services, so those interested in this field must enjoy research since evolutionary psychology graduate programs prefer students with an aptitude for research. Professors are often responsible for selecting graduate students. They typically look for applicants with similar research interests. Likewise, students who’ve participated in intensive undergraduate research earned undergraduate degrees in related fields, and scored high on entrance exams are usually admitted. It typically takes 1-2 years to earn a master’s degree and 5-6 years to earn a doctorate degree in evolutionary psychology. Not all universities offer graduate programs in evolutionary psychology, but most graduate students studying psychology are required to complete evolutionary psychology courses.
