College Degree Finder

Florida SouthWestern State College, formerly known as Edison State College (ESC) and Edison Community College, is a four-year higher education institution based in Ft. Myers, Florida. In addition to its main campus in Fort Myers, ESC has branches in the counties of Collier and Charlotte, as well as outreach programs in two other counties. ESC is named after Thomas Edison, a businessman and famous American inventor who developed the electric light bulb. Edison State College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). However, the college’s accreditation status was brought into question in 2010 when it was placed on probation for failing to meet all SACS accreditation requirements.

ESC offers Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees, as well as a few professional certificate programs. ESC offers a dual enrollment program that allows sophomore, junior and senior high school students to earn college credit while completing their high school diploma.

According to the Florida SouthWestern State College website, “Florida SouthWestern State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call (404) 679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Florida SouthWestern State College.”
