Also known as ECU, East Central University was founded in 1909 and is a four-year public university located in Ada, Oklahoma. In 1919, ECU became a teacher's college and started offering bachelor's degrees. ECU first implemented graduate work in 1954. Today, ECU offers over 80 undergraduate majors, and master's degrees in education, accounting, psychology, and human resources. ECU classes are also available in Ardmore at the Ardmore Higher Education Center, in Durant at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Shawnee at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center, and in McAlester at the Eastern Oklahoma State College branch campus.

Academics and Programs

ECU is divided into five academic units – three colleges and two schools – and offers over 65 degree programs. Additionally, some courses are available online and through OneNet. The university is comprised of the School of Business, the College of Education and Psychology, the College of Health and Sciences, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies.

ECU is unique for offering degree programs in cartography, environmental science, and medical physics. Additionally, it is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Athletics

Known as the Tigers, ECU's athletic teams have competed in the NCAA Division II Great American Conference since 2011. Previously, they competed in the Lone Star Conference of the NCAA from 1995 to 2011.

Athletics offices are located in the Kerr Activities Center.

Library System

The school's library dates back to 1909, when ECU was founded. In 1997, a new library facility was completed and named after Dr. Adolph Linscheid, who was president of ECU from 1920 to 1949. The library's stated mission is to provide an information-rich environment fostering independent learning throughout the community.

Student Housing

On-campus student life is centered around the residence halls Pesagi Hall, Briles Hall, Pontotoc Hall, Adult Housing, Knight Hall, and Tiger Commons. Most freshman students are required to live in on-campus housing.
