Decatur, Illinois, also known as the “Soybean Capital of the World,” is located about halfway between Chicago and St. Louis. The actual city of Decatur has approximately 82,000 people, but the overall metro area includes close to 110,000 people. The population has slightly declined over the last decade because of the loss of the Firestone plant that provided a lot of jobs for the local population.

Millikin University is a comprehensive private four year institution with an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students. The school was founded in 1901 by local businessman, James Millikin. It sits on a beautiful 75 acre campus just a few blocks west of downtown Decatur. Millikin offers over 50 majors and 25 minors to choose from. Its most popular degrees are Biology, Education, Music, Theater, Business, and Nursing.
