In Old East Dallas, Texas lies Criswell College a Christian college and divinity school. The stated objective of Criswell College is to train students in the original languages and biblical inerrancy, and to teach them how to preach the Bible with emphasis on evangelism.
Criswell College was established in January of 1971 as “Criswell Bible Institute”. It was later renamed the “Criswell Center for Biblical Studies” and more recently it’s name was simplified to “Criswell College”. The institute was named after its founder W. A. Criswell, a dispensationalist Baptist pastor.
Criswell College is affiliated with the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention and currently has over 300 students from accross the nation and around the world. Criswell offers diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor degrees and masters degress in divinity studies.
Criswell received accreditation by the Commission of Colleges of the Sourthern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1985 but the college was placed on probation in June 2007. In 2010, Criswell was denied reaffirmation of its accreditation status for failure to make improvements to its general education programs. The college is currently accredited with an accreditation renewal date of 2020.
