School Overview

Columbus State Community College is a community college providing two-year professional training in a variety of fields. Abbreviated CSCC, the school is located in Columbus, Ohio. Transfer programs are available for students who wish to begin their college careers at CSCC and then transfer to a four-year institution.

CSCC offers degrees in academic fields such as architecture, nuclear medicine, geographic information systems and nursing. CSCC students may also pursue a variety of two-year professional training. Career programs are available in areas such as engineering, public service, business, health and human service. Many students participate in campus clubs and student-run organizations.

Founded in 1963 as Columbus Area Technician’s School, the school only had 67 students. In 1965 it was renamed Columbus Technical Institute. Today the 70-acre campus and its ten nearby satellites host over 30,000 students every year. The Columbus campus is home to the Discover Exchange, the school’s bookstore.

A new 100-acre campus in Liberty Township opened in 2010. CSCC joined with Ohio State University to make these new facilities available for students and faculty from both schools.

Columbus State now offers various online learning opportunities for its students. Web based courses allow current students to work on their degree without attending all classroom lectures–but they are still required to pass examinations and tests which are administered on campus. The school also offers hybrid courses which include a combination of classroom attendance and online learning. In addition to online courses, CSCC also offers online associate, baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in various fields of study, including business, photography, nursing, and technology. Online bachelor’s and master’s degrees are offered through strategic partnerships with Bowling Green State University, California University of Pennsylvania, DeVry University, Franklin University and several other four-year universites.
