This program is designed to prepare students to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development, and operational evaluation of systems at the interface of chemical engineering and biology, with an emphasis at the molecular level, such as biopharmaceutical processes, metabolic engineering, protein engineering, biomaterials, cell and tissue engineering, gene therapy, and drug delivery. This program typically includes in depth instruction in chemical engineering, organic chemistry, thermodynamics, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biotechnology, momentum and heat transfer, process design, and chemical reactor design.
