Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phoenix City, Alabama serves the higher education needs of all of Russell County and parts of Macon, Lee, Barbour, and Bullock counties. The metropolitan area of Columbus, Georgia is also served by Chattahoochee Valley. Chattahoochee Valley Community College shares a campus with Troy University in Phoenix City.

Originally called Chattahoochee Valley State Junior College, the college was established in 1973 under the direction of the Alabama State Legislature. When it first opened in 1974, it only had 280 students but the number has grown to over 1200 students. The college currently has eight buildings that were built through the donations of local residents.
