Bryn Athyn College of the New Church

College Degree Finder

Byrn Athyn College is a private Christian college that offers a liberal arts education in association with The General Church of the New Jerusalem. It is located in Byrn Athyn borough, just twenty miles outside of Philadelphia.

The college was established as Academy of the New Church over a century ago. Its original purpose was to train religious ministers. Thirteen years later after it was established, the Academy founded the General Church of the New Jerusalem in order to share the ideas and beliefs of Emanuel Swedenborg. Over time, the school has grown and expanded its programs, thanks to generous funding from people like John Pitcairn. While it began as a seminary and a high-school, it now offers two and four year degree programs, including Bachelor’s degrees in the arts and sciences. In 1997 the academy’s name was changed to Byrn Athyn College of the New Church to reflect its new status as a college.

Nothwithstanding its remarkable growth rate, Byrn Athyn College is dedicated to its Christian faith as well as the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg–one of its founders. In recent years, there have been several new additions to the campus, including expanded student facilities, additional housing and, in 2009, a new science center.
