Bossier City is lcoated in the Bossier Parish in the Northwest corner of the state of Louisiana. The city of Bossier itself has a populations of roughly 60,000 but it belongs to the Shreveport-Bossier metro area which has population of nearly 450,000. Even though the city is hundreds of miles inland, it has an average elevation of just 175 feet above sea level.
Bossier has several school districts and is home to 21 elementary schools, 7 middle schools and six high schools. It is also home to several higher education institutions including Louisiana Tech University at Shreveport-Bossier and Bossier Parish Community College.
Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is the only two-year community college within the Shreveport-Bossier metro area. It was founded in 1967 as two-year commuter college and later became a state chartered community college. It did not officially become “Bossier Parish Community College” until 1973, at which time it expanded its daytime course offering and started offering classes in the evening. Today, Bossier offerings a large selection of associate degrees and career-oriented certificates designed to prepare students for a four-year college or to enter the workforce following graduation.
