School Overview

Ball State University is a research university in Muncie, Indiana. Commonly known as BSU or Ball State, it is a state-operated school that offers a wide range of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs through seven academic colleges.

Ball State was originally established as a normal school and has expanded over the years, both in terms of academic curriculum and student population. Today the school enrolls more than 22,000 students each year, with almost 4,000 graduate students. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education has designated Ball State as a research university with high activity (RU/H).

Ball State hosts a very large resident student community. Almost 7,000 students live in the school’s ten residence halls. The “Unofficial, Unbiased Insider’s Guide to the Most Interesting Colleges” named the freshman residence program one of the best in the U.S.

Online and Distance Education

Ball State offers various course delivery methods to help students conveniently earn the degree or certificate they’re looking for. The university’s distance learning programs are offered online, live a various off-campus locations throughout the city, or via a hybrid program with combine on-site courses with online courses.

All degrees which are entirely online are offered through Ball State’s Division of Online and Distance Education. There are more than 10,000 students enrolled in one of the university’s many web-based, online courses. About fifty percent are students pursuing a degree entirely online and the other fifty percent are students enrolled at Ball State’s campus program who are supplementing their traditional degree with online courses.

Currently, Ball State offers over 65 online degrees and certificates. Students also have the options of completing individual courses online. There are over 500 online courses available at the undergraduate and graduate level.
