Auburn University has a
unique mission that is based on a long
tradition of service and access. The
institution serves the citizens and
residents of Alabama through high quality
instructional, outreach and research
programs and prepares the state's citizens
to face the challenges of a global
economy.
The university provides all students
access to its educational and student
resources. Auburn University uses new
instructional technologies in its campus
and online courses. Known as AU or Auburn,
the school has more than 25,000 students
and 1,200 faculty members, making it one
of the state’s largest universities.
Auburn is among the few U.S. schools to be
designated as a land-grant, sea-grant and
space-grant research center. Auburn
consists of thirteen schools and colleges,
with its forestry, veterinary science,
architecture, pharmacy, engineering and
business schools highly ranked amongst
universities nationwide.
Accreditation
It is accredited by the Association of
Public and Land-Grant Universities and the
Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools.
Rankings
The school has been ranked as one of the
top 50 public universities for two decades
straight, with the 2011 edition of U.S.
News and World Report tapping it as the
82nd university in the nation among both
public and private schools.
Athletics
Known as the Tigers, Auburn’s sports teams
participate in Division I-A of the NCAA
and are in the Western Division of the
Southeastern Conference. With a total of
19 intercollegiate national championships,
Auburn is known as a strong competitor.

Auburn offers loans, grants, federal
work-study, scholarships and veterans’
benefits to help students defray the cost
of attendance.
Library System
Combined, the Auburn University libraries
comprise more than 3.2 million volumes
along with 2.6 million government
documents, 2.5 million microforms, and
over 148,000 maps. There is access to more
than 35,000 current periodicals as well as
more than 227 electronic databases and
more than 10 million archival and
manuscript items.
Student Housing
Auburn’s on-campus housing is made up of
four complexes: The Quad, The Hill, The
Village and South Donahue. The Quad is the
oldest of the four, dating back to the
Great Depression.
