The Art Institutes is owned an operated by Education Management Corporation (EDMC). The San Francisco branch offers various career-oriented degree programs in the contemporary and creative arts including degrees in Advertising, Audio Production, Computer Animation, Culinary Management, Culinary Arts, Digital Film Production, Fashion Marketing, Game Art & Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing & Management, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Media Arts & Animation, Visual & Game Programming, Web Design & Interactive Media and Video Production.

In June 2006, the private equity investor Goldman Sachs and Providence Equity Partners purchased a 41% ownership interest in EDMC the parent company of the Art Institute of California.
