With more than 7,000,000 residents, the state of Arizona is the 16th most populous state in the nation and has one of the strongest economies. In fact, career opportunities for aspiring for career professionals, including psychologists, are abundant, especially in the state’s major metropolitan areas surrounding the cities of Phoenix and Tucson.
Not only is Arizona a good place to set up shop if you’re a psychologist, it’s also a great place to obtain a psychology education. Currently, there are about 27 accredited colleges that offer advanced degrees in psychology. A few schools of the schools that offer fairly large selections of psychology degrees include: Argosy University; Arizona State University; Northcentral University; Grand Canyon University; and University of Arizona.
While earning an associate or bachelor’s degree will help you develop a sound skill set if you want to become a practitioner, you’ll need to earn a doctoral degree in psychology and pass a state licensing exam administered by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners. Doctoral degrees in psychology may be obtained in a variety of specialty areas including Cognition; Neurological Systems; Clinical Psychology; Evolutionary Psychology; Policy and Law; Forensic Psychology; and Social Psychology; to name just a few. However, before you can pursue a doctoral degree in psychology, you’ll need to earn, at minimum a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and preferably a master’s degree from an accredited school or program.
Below we’ve put together a comprehensive list of the colleges and universities in Arizona that offer accredited associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree programs in psychology.
