Alexandria Technical and Community College, commonly referred to as Alexandria Technical College (ATC), Alexandria Tech or just Alex Tech, is an accredited 2-year technical and community college located in the city of Alexandria, in the state of Minnesota. It is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, which includes over 30 four-year colleges and universities, 25 community colleges and several state universities. Alexandria Tech has about 2,800 full-time students and 1,200 part-time students.

Academics

Alexandria Tech offers 2-year Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degree programs and 1- to 2-year career-oriented certificates if over 50 fields of study and disciplines. The curriculum and teaching methodology at Alexandria Technical College are based on in-class lectures, projects, clinical work and experiential learning. The courses are designed to prepare students for career opportunities in the real world. Classes range from 18 to 20 students and labs usually don’t go over 18 students. While all of the programs at the college are popular, Alexandria Tech offers a law enforcement programs which is particularly popular, given that it is one of the only programs of its kind in the state. For students looking to transfer into Alex Tech, the school offers a special AS transfer degree program.

Many students use Alexandria Tech as stepping stone into a four-year college or university. Over the last few decades Alex Tech has had one of the highest student placement rates (90%) of any school within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. Alex Tech is know for being the place to go if you want to get into a four-year college or to received highly-specialized technical skills. Unlike many community colleges Alex Tech is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Admissions Policies/Requirements

School achievement record, test scores, and interview considered for course placement. Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory required. ACT recommended and physical agility test required for law enforcement applicants. NET test for practical nursing examination required for practical nursing applicants. Mechanical reasoning tests required for marine and small engine mechanics and diesel mechanics applicants.
