Alameda is located on Bay Farm Island and Alameda Island in the San Francisco Bay. At last census, Alemada city had 73,812 residents. Alameda is a great place to go to school as its close proximity to San Francisco and many other cities within the Bay Area make it a very central and convenient location to live. While having a car is useful, it isn’t necessary. Public transportation in Alameda includes the AC Transit bus system and two ferry services – the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry and the Alameda/Oakland Ferry. Alameda is also close to the BART train service, with the nearest stations in Lake Merritt (by Posey Tube), and Fruitvlale (by Fruitvale Bridge).
The only college located with the city limits of Alameda is the College of Alameda. However, there are several other colleges and universities within commuting distance of Alameda.
