Wesleyan University
Wesleyan College is a women-only private liberal arts college located in Macon, Georgia. Established in 1836, this college was the first to have a female-only student body. Wesleyan is known for its excellent academic programs. This school lists the following as its four cornerstones:
1) Academics
Wesleyan College offers excellent fine and liberal arts academic programs. It also offers professional study programs. Because of its small class sizes, students at Wesleyan have easy access to professors.
2) Women
Wesleyan College is dedicated to helping young women grow intellectually, socially, and personally. Students have plenty of opportunities to lead and serve. Wesleyan College encourages students to set ambitious goals and creates the environment where students can succeed.
3) Faith
Wesleyan College is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Students of all faiths are welcome to attend the school. Wesleyan promotes the Judeo-Christian ethic, and incorporates it into curriculum. Students are encouraged to provide service while at Wesleyan.
4) Community
Wesleyan encourages individualism while simultaneously creating an environment where students grow as a whole. The school encourages people to serve in the local community.
Various academic programs are available to Wesleyan students. The school offers liberal arts, neuroscience, education, and engineering programs. Students from all states and over 20 foreign countries attend Wesleyan College.
There are numerous other benefits to attending this school. Students are taught in small classes where learning is enhanced. Also, there are plenty of leadership opportunities available to students. They have the option of chairing committees, serving as captains of athletic teams, and participating with academic clubs. Since Wesleyan fosters a supportive environment, shy freshman often leave Wesleyan confident graduates.
There are 32 undergraduate degree programs available at this school. In addition to traditional majors, students have the option of creating individualized majors. Wesleyan caters to students interested in graduate professional studies by offering pre-med, engineering, pre-dental, and other programs. Women interested in engineering can take advantage of dual-degree programs with nearby schools, including Auburn University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Mercer University.
Programs are also available for working professionals interested in additional education. Wesleyan College offers executive education programs, including a master’s of business administration program.
Wesleyan College sponsors various types of extracurricular activities. The school sponsors 6 varsity teams and various student organizations. There are also 13 academic honor societies for gifted students, including musical clubs.
Students can also participate in class pep rallies and student written and performed plays where ticket proceeds are used to sponsor scholarships.
