Liberal Arts and Sciences/liberal Studies Colleges and Programs

"So what are you going to do with a degree in liberal arts? What career can you pursue after you graduate? Are going to become a teacher?" If you're planning on majoring in liberal arts, or are already a liberal arts major, you've probably already heard, or are going hear, questions like those from time to time. But they are fair questions-especially if you don't plan on becoming a teacher. But just because your career options aren't as immediately apparent as they are for nursing or engineering student, there are still many career paths for liberal arts majors. Liberal arts students develop highly valuable skill sets that employers demand-and they qualify for jobs in a large variety of industries.

Employers hire students based on their skill set, not their majors-as confirmed by a study produced by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) which showed that the large majority of hiring managers look first and foremost at a candidates job relevant skills. Fortunately for liberal arts majors, the skills that most employers are looking for, first and foremost, are critical thinking, analytical and interpersonal communication, skills that liberal arts students are well known for.

That's not to say that finding a good job won't take effort. Whether you have a degree in liberal arts or economics, there's no guarantee of immediate job search success upon graduation. However, liberal arts graduate will need to be persistent and learn how to effectively communicate through their resume, cover letter and interview how their liberal arts degree helped them develop specific skills the employer is looking for.

Most liberal arts majors include a structured combination of the arts, social sciences, biological and physical sciences, and humanities, emphasizing breadth of study. They also frequently include in depth instruction in independently designed, regular, or individualized programs. Below you'll find a list of accredited colleges and universities that provide Liberal Arts and Sciences undergraduate majors and degree programs.
